OUR STORY

An Italiophile goes to Sicily…

Falls in love with the wine, food and soul of the island. Becomes a Sommelier. Sets off on a mission to share Sicilian wine with the rest of the world… starting with Seattle, WA

Our journey begins with a wedding invitation that led Ken to the idyllic island of Marettimo, nestled off the West coast of Sicily. He anticipated the joyous festivities, but what unfolded was a wine adventure into the Sicilian wine world. For over a week, he explored Sicily, savoring local wines at every stop along the way.

With a seasoned palate cultivated by years of appreciation for wines, Ken was astounded by the quality, variety, and sheer deliciousness of Sicilian wines. While equally substantial, the Sicilian freshness and vibrancy stood starkly against the hearty wines of the Pacific Northwest. Sicily unveiled its secrets through distinct flavors and unique grape varietals native to the island - Grillo, Catarratto, Inzolia, Carricante, Frappatto, Nerello Mascalese, Perricone, and Nero d’Avola. These wines boasted incredible body, perfect balance, and, best of all, affordability that allowed enjoyment every afternoon and evening of his trip.

Multiple cases of that sweet Sicilian nectar found their way back with Ken. Fueled by his passion for wine, Ken decided to deepen his knowledge through education, immersing himself in the systematic approach to tasting and identifying various wine types. He embarked on a journey of learning and successfully completed Level 2 & 3 in the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) with distinction, earning the title of a certified sommelier.

As Ken shared his love for Sicilian vino with friends, family, colleagues, and beyond, it became evident that many others shared his craving for more wine options beyond the familiar choices found in the US. The Sicilian treasures he had introduced them to could not be found in any local specialty shops or big box retailers. And so, A Posto Vino was born out of the sheer desire to share the unique flavors of Sicily with the world (err Washington for now!).

    Meet the driving force behind a posto vino. Ken is a seasoned entrepreneur with a day-job in venture and a certified level 3 WSET sommelier. His passion for Italy and wine, particularly the Sicilian wines that embrace biodynamic practices, inspired the creation of our club. Expect meticulously selected bottles and captivating tales when dining with Ken - he’s tasted and chosen every single bottle selected in your membership, likely over hours-long meals homecooked at the wineries of origin.

    Co-pilot of a posto vino, Andrea serves as Ken's right-hand and chief executive wine taster. With nearly a decade in events and luxury hospitality, her expertise translates to ensuring excellence experience of our wine club members and crafting captivating digital content. From social media and event production to member experience, Andrea adds finesse and flair.
